Ultra high purity linings

We work with manufacturers and suppliers who must remove all traces of metal ions, silicate and particulate contamination. ECM engineers work with you to find the best long-lasting fluoropolymer solution for your specific application.

Not all fluoropolymers work for ultra-high purity. Depending on your application, you might need a lining that maintains ultra high purity even under the most severe corrosive conditions. Let our team find the correct lining combined with professional installation to guarantee storage and transportation.

Ultra high purity clean room

Part Per Trillion purity is achieved through proprietary ultra-pure fabrication processes in a Class 10,000 clean room. All welded seams are spark tested between 10,000 – 20,000 Volts DC and the vessel is cleaned with electronic grade isopropyl alcohol, soaked and rinsed with ultra-pure 18 megohm de-ionized water.

The ECM clean room is unique in the industry, providing the most protection for an entire vessel and all the related equipment. Learn more about the clean room here.

Ultra High Purity Materials

These plastics, called Fluoroplastics, contain fluorine, which is highly electro negative, making them inert and chemical resistant. They also tend to handle high temperatures and are very pure.

  • PDVF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) is the most commonly used fluoropolymer. It has a high level of purity, excellent chemical resistance and a temperature capability of up to about 250 degrees F. It is frequently used for strong acids, solvents and in the handling of DI water. It is not recommended for caustics.
  • ECTFE (Ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene) ECTFE is similar to PVDF in its chemical resistance and has somewhat improved resistance to caustic and chloride environments. It exhibits excellent melt processing properties and has the lowest coefficient of expansion of fluorinated materials, making it a good selection for high thermal cycling environments.
  • ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) is a partially fluorinated thermoplastic. It is resistant to most chemicals except concentrated oxidizing acids at elevated temperatures, alkali amines, certain organic solvents, alkali metals at ambient temperature, fluorine at elevated temperatures, and certain halogenated compounds.
  • PTFE-M (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is similar to PTFE, but is chemically modified with perfluoropropyl vinyl ether to make it melt flow processable. It is chemically resistant to virtually all chemicals except alkali metals and fluorine at elevated temperatures. PTFE-M is also less permeable than PTFE, making it the material of choice for the most severe, highest temperature corrosive environments. Available as a bonded sheet lining with a maximum service temperature of 230°F.
  • FEP (Fluorinated ethylene propylene) is a fully fluorinated thermoplastic that is chemically inert. FEP is subject to attack at ambient temperature by alkali metals, alkali metal organics and fluorine.
  • PFA (perfluoroalkoxy) is the most chemically inert of all the fluorinated materials. PFA is very similar in composition to PTFE and FEP (fluorinated ethylene-propylene). PFA and FEP both share PTFE’s useful properties of low coefficient of friction and non-reactivity but are more easily formable.

As a full-range supplier of ultra high purity solutions, Electro Chemical remains committed to meeting specific fluid containment application requirements and manufacturing with a wide selection of fluoropolymer and polymer materials ensures you get the best solution for your particular application.

Piranha storage and hauling

The Piranha acid solution, formed by combining sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide, proves exceptionally adept at eliminating lingering organic particles from substrates, particularly in the semiconductor industry.

However, due to its highly corrosive and hazardous nature, it demands meticulous adherence to ultra-high purity standards and stringent protective measures.

Consideration:

  • PFA (perfluoroalkoxy), the most chemically inert fluoropolymer lining material on the market, is used to safely transport, process and store in steel tankers, trailers, storage tanks, process vessels and ISO containers.
  • PFA linings MUST be applied and welded correctly. Only the most experienced welders are familiar with the requirements and procedures.
  • Only a class 10,000 clean room large enough to house the entire container and all equipment can offer the most ultra purity results.

Ultra high purity fluid containment systems

Ultra high purity fluids do not live in one container. They are manufactured in one container, transported in another and stored in at least one more.

Can you guarantee the purity of each containment system along the way? Using the right materials and the right installation is the right start. And, with the experience and performance of Electro Chemical Manufacturing, you can be assured that your containment systems will last for years. Many of our original systems from 1984 are still in use.
